Throughout the past year, pebble {code} has been rapidly growing and needed to bring on an average of one new developer every month. When recruiting, they look for developers who love coding and don’t just care about solving problems but also about doing software engineering the right way. Because of their high bar for candidates, they were having a difficult time finding high-quality talent. They tried recruitment agencies, but it always took a long time for the agencies to find the type of candidates they were looking for, and the cost was always very expensive. pebble {code} needed a more economically efficient (and successful) method of sourcing candidates on a regular basis throughout the year.


pebble {code} posted their first job listing in October 2011, which targeted candidates in and around London. After receiving better applicant quality than through recruiters or other methods, they continued to use Stack Overflow Talent for their other technical roles throughout the year. When pebble {code} needed to maximise the number of impressions and applicants for a particular role (or hire more than one developer), they used a Top Spot/Featured listing, the most premium option. The Top Spot highlighted and geo-targeted their job opportunity on Stack Overflow question pages, engaging an audience of passive candidates from a user base of 17 million unique monthly visitors.

The Results: 

  • Tripled the number of impressions to their listing using Top Spot/Featured
  • Moved 25% of candidates to next round of interviews
  • Received 50-100% more applicants than from a standard job listing
  • Filled 5 developer positions in 1 year
  • Brought in all new hires within 2 months of posting openings
