We discover how Netguru, a high-growth Ruby on Rails and iOS software house, used Stack Overflow Talent to attract the best developers and create a pipeline of future candidates for their team. Netguru is one of Poland’s best technology success stories. In 2014 it ranked 5th in the regional Deloitte Tech Fast 50 awards, and achieved a phenomenal 1,386% increase in turnover. Expanding its development team was key to the continued growth of the company.

The Challenge: Hiring Developers

Despite offering an exceptional working environment for developers, Netguru still faced challenges in sourcing and engaging the best technical talent. The Polish hiring market was becoming increasingly competitive, and they were seeking specialised skills in iOS and Ruby on Rails. HR Marketing Manager, Ola Pszczola, explained that competition is fierce: “Developers are approached regularly, sometimes even spammed by recruitment agencies. So they have a lot of choices on where to find their next job.”

The Solution: Sourcing Talent

Ola saw an opportunity to interact with developers via Stack Overflow Talent’ talent solutions. “I started to use Stack Overflow Talent because of the popularity of the main Q & A site amongst developers”. Initially Netguru posted job adverts, then progressed to purchasing the Candidate Search package. Ola quickly saw results: “At first, we were looking for Ruby Developers. Now we are searching for Ruby, iOS and front-end web developers on Stack Overflow Talent. We’ve hired a few in two weeks so far. Since we purchased a one-year subscription to Candidate Search, I use it almost every day.”

The Results: Building a Pipeline & Investing in Future Growth

Ola found that candidates were more likely to reply to a message sent via Stack Overflow Talent than other recruitment platforms. Using Stack Overflow Talent also helped Netguru to build a sustainable candidate pipeline for Netguru’s future. Ola explained; “What I really like, is that even when a position isn’t right for a candidate, they are always polite and give us great feedback about our jobs.”

For Ola, using Candidate Search on Stack Overflow Talent proved to be a successful investment, as Netguru has already hired three developers. Asked how it compares to recruitment agencies and job boards, Ola said “It’s a simple answer - it works. Some people in Poland use recruitment agencies to find developers, but it costs more overall and is not as efficient.
